Capt. Cameron Ward, the 1863rd’s Commander, Maj. Gen. Rodney Boyd, Assistant Adjutant General – Army of the Illinois National Guard and Commander of the Illinois Army National Guard, Sgt. Dejuan Patterson, a military pay chief with the 1863rd and Patterson’s family gathered for a group photo after the mobilization and promotion ceremony at the Northwest Armory in Chicago Jan. 5. Boyd presented Patterson with a command coin during the ceremony as a token of respect and expressed great faith in Patterson and his new leadership responsibilities.
