An aerial photo of the Crane Army Ammunition Activity pyrotechnic production facility complex (center) in 1976, a year before CAAA was established by the Department of Defense to inherit the WWII-legacy ammunition manufacturing mission from Navy operators on Naval Support Activity Crane. In the decades since, pyrotechnic operations have grown and expanded, and so have several office and support activities nearby. A new complex, expected to exceed fifty-thousand feet of floor space, is planned for construction and will have plenty of room to expand and offer increased levels of safety buffers over the current location.
