U.S. Army Pfc. Ernesto Ramirez, an active duty wheeled vehicle mechanic stationed in Colorado, visits Sunburst Youth Academy, Jan. 14, 2024, on Joint Forces Training Base, Los Alamitos, California. Ramirez is a graduated from the academy’s Class 30 Wolfpack platoon in 2022. Sunburst is a National Guard Youth Challenge Program run in partnership between the Orange County Department of Education and the California National Guard’s Task Force Torch youth and community programs directorate. The academy focuses on high school credit recovery for Southern California teens, ages 15.5 to 18, while also instilling leadership, self-discipline, goal setting, service to the community, financial education and other life skills.
