An F-16C Fighting Falcon from the 510th Fighter Squadron (FS) retracts its landing gear on takeoff from Naval Base Ventura County (NBVC) Point Mugu in California as it heads out on a morning sortie during the Bamboo Eagle exercise on Jan. 30. About a dozen other F-16s from the 510th FS, based at Aviano Air Base in Italy, used NBVC Point Mugu as a base of operations for a week as the live-fly exercise played out over the Pacific Ocean each day. More than 150 aircraft from over 10 West Coast locations participated in the first iteration of the training exercise, which the U.S. Air Force Warfare Center conducted.
