Two Army Space Support Teams with the Colorado Army National Guard were honored for their service in support of Operation Spartan Shield during a ceremony at the 117th Space Support Battalion readiness center, Fort Carson, on Feb. 3.
The ceremony welcomed Soldiers from ARSST 20, 1158th Space Company, 117th Space Battalion, who returned from a May 2023 deployment to the CENTCOM area of operations. ARSST 17, also of the 117th Space Battalion, will deploy to the area in their stead and was honored during the farewell portion of the event.
"You completed your mission admirably and with great honor," Lt. Col. Jay Gustin, 117th Space Battalion commander, told the returning team. "You represented yourselves, the 117th, the Colorado Army National Guard, and the Army space profession with confidence and class, and we're so pleased to have you back."
Each ARSST team is composed of six Soldiers – two officers and four enlisted – with different roles from the space operations officers that lead them to satellite communications, intelligence, and geospatial engineers, all which provide expertise on space support operations, along with space-related capabilities that make warfighters with boots on the ground more effective in combat operations.
