EAST CHINA SEA ─ U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Maj. Joy M. Kitashima, the III Marine Expeditionary Force sergeant major, left, commends Sgt. Liana Melendez, an F-35B avionics mechanics with Marine Medium Tiltrotor Squadron 265 (Rein.), 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit, for her superior work, during a visit to the amphibious assault ship USS America (LHA 6), in the East China Sea, Feb. 7, 2024. Lt. Gen. Turner visited Marines and Sailors aboard the USS America during a battlefield rotation after assuming duties as commanding general of III MEF. The 31st MEU is operating aboard ships of the America Amphibious Ready Group in the 7th Fleet area of operations to enhance interoperability with allies and partners and serve as a ready response force to defend peace and stability in the Indo-Pacific region.
