The Ohio Army National Guard Army Aviation Support Facility #1 in Cleveland is being memorialized in honor of Gov. Thomas J. Herbert, who is a native of Cleveland. He enlisted in the Army and was commissioned in the Air Service in 1918, and was the first commander of the first flying unit in Ohio National Guard history. Herbert served as the Ohio attorney general from 1939 to 1945 and was elected Ohio’s 56th governor in 1947. He died in 1974. (Photo from Ohio National Guard Heritage Center)
