U.S. Army Soldiers from the Eighth Army Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion prepare for their arrival to Camp Carroll, South Korea on March 8, 2024. They were transported from Camp Humphreys in a CH-47 Chinook in support of Eighth Army’s training objectives during Freedom Shield exercise. Freedom Shield is an 11-day exercise in which South Korea and the United States train to reflect the Korea Theater of Operations, a combined, joint, multi-domain, and interagency operating environment. In support of the Armistice Agreement, Freedom Shield 24 underscores the enduring military partnership between the ROK and the U.S. It reinforces the role of the Alliance as the linchpin for regional peace and security, reaffirming the unwavering commitment of the United States to defend the Republic of Korea.
