Fort Carson, Colo - On March 6-7, 2024, the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team (1SBCT) invited Mr. David Woods Bartley to speak to a variety of audiences about taking preemptive steps against suicide and self-harm in the unit. Mr. Bartley led focused sessions with Fort Carson Chaplains, behavioral health professionals, and 1SBCT leaders to train key groups on how to identify and handle worrying signs in Soldiers. To close his visit, he addressed open sessions with Fort Carson Soldiers and Families by offering his personal experience with depression. Mr. Bartley's training empowered the Brigade's Soldiers to take steps at the individual level to stop suicides and represented an important stride towards improved mental health in the Brigade.
