Republic of Korea Air Force combat controllers observe a U.S. Air Force MC-130J from the 1st Special Operations Squadron approaching an alternate landing surface on Mar. 7, 2024, near Namji, Republic of Korea during exercise Freedom Shield 24. The controllers worked with USAF personnel from the 320th Special Tactics Squadron, coordinating aircraft landings on an old highway section converted into a landing strip as part of the joint exercise. The training validated combined interoperability between ROK and U.S. personnel and demonstrated the flexible nature of joint special operations capabilities in austere environments.
