OXON HILL, Md. (April 7, 2024) - Young learners build miniature rocket models at the FIRE Rocket Challenge booth during the Sea-Air-Space Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) expo at the Gaylord National Hotel and Conference Center, Sunday. Participants had the opportunity to launch their miniature rockets at targets to test design and mechanics. FIRE Rocket Challenge provides STEM education programming to traditionally underrepresented and under-resourced youth. FIRE Rocket partnered with the U.S. Navy's Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) to connect STEM activities to elements of the real-world missions of commands like SSP, the Navy command that is resonsible for the cradle-to-grave lifecycle of the submarine-launched ballistic missle system.
