    IQUITOS, Peru (March 14, 2024) Naval Medical Research Unit (NAMRU) SOUTH nursing technicians Leny Curico and Rosa Tamani perform a clinical exam and take medical history during patient enrollment for a surveillance study of acute febrile disease. NAMRU SOUTH surveillance efforts help track the circulation of illness and inform the treatment of disease that can affect health and readiness of service members and citizens in the U.S. and its partner nations. Part of the Navy Medicine Research & Development enterprise, NAMRU SOUTH conducts research on a wide range of infectious diseases of military and public health significance, and supports Global Health Engagement through surveillance of those diseases, including dengue fever, malaria, diarrheal diseases and antimicrobial-resistant infections.
