WASHINGTON NAVY YARD (April 24, 2024) – Yeoman Chief Petty Officer Christina Rodriguez (second from left), Vice Admiral Johnny R. Wolfe Jr, (third from right), and members of Strategic Systems Programs (SSP) participate in Denim Day to raise awareness for and promote prevention of sexual violence, as well as to support survivors of sexual assault and harassment. Wearing denim on the last Wednesday of April has been a tradition since Denim Day originated in 1999 when the Italian Supreme Court overturned a rape conviction, stating that the victim’s attire when she was attacked – denim jeans – implied consent. The following day, women in the Italian Parliament stood in solidarity with the victim--and with victims around the globe--by wearing denim in protest of the ruling.
