Crew from Coast Guard Station Barnegat Light in New Jersey practiced surf training when turbulent storms created large swells and turbulent seas. Surfmen are among the Service’s most proficient small boat operators. Crews undergo rigorous training to ensure that they are prepared to respond to distress calls and maritime emergencies during heavy storms. The station—one of 19 Coast Guard surf stations--is located on a barrier island northeast of Atlantic City.
