The 405th Army Field Support Brigade's deputy to the commander provided a detailed information brief and tour of the Long Term Equipment Storage and Maintenance-Complex in Powidz, Poland, to Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense Michael McAndrew (center), recently.
Joseph Scheff and McAndrew, who is the DASD for Construction within the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Sustainment), along with an entourage of other leaders from U.S. Army Materiel Command and more, walked the LTESM-C in order to get a firsthand look at the largest and most modernized Army Prepositioned Stocks site in the world.
Comprised of 650,000 square feet of humidity-controlled warehouse space, a vehicle maintenance facility and supporting facilities, and 58,000 square feet of munitions storage – the LTESM-C demonstrates the commitment and investment of the U.S. with Poland and NATO through enduring agreements to posture resources for rapid deployment and deter potential adversaries. Soon, the LTESM-C will host an entire modernized armored brigade combat team’s worth of APS-2 tactical vehicles and combat equipment as the 405th AFSB’s Army Field Support Battalion-Poland assumes mission command of the complex.
McAndrew provides executive leadership on all matters pertaining to the Department pf Defense’s physical infrastructure, to include development and execution of policies, guidance, and procedures for construction, operations, maintenance and repair of DoD’s worldwide facilities to enhance and preserve warfighting capabilities and to provide safe working and living conditions for our military personnel and families. His responsibilities include all matters related to real property maintenance; facility operations; and host-nation programs related to facility construction and management.
