Twin brothers Enginemen Second Class Jamarcus and Jamain Gholston received Navy Achievement Medals in front of a bronze plaque depicting President Roosevelt's famous April 23, 1910, speech "Man in the Arena." The plaque is one of two motivational tributes mounted on guided-missile cruiser USS Port Royal's (CG 73) quarterdeck and pilothouse, and serves as a symbol of her Sailor's dedication to mission accomplishment. "The quote speaks to the hard-working Sailor, like these Enginemen, who work hard all day in the plant to keep the ship moving," said Captain Adler, "but who hardly get recognized for it. They are the 'Man in the Arena'." Port Royal is part of the USS Tarawa Expeditionary Strike Group, and is on a regularly scheduled deployment in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility. Operating in the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean, the U.S. 7th fleet is the largest of the forward deployed U.S. Fleets covering 52 million square miles, with approximately 50 ships, 120 aircraft, and 20,000 Sailors and Marines assigned at any given time.
