U.S. Marines with Security Battalion run with the American and Honor and Remember flags during the 12th Annual Virginia Run for the Fallen memorial on Marine Corps Base Quantico, Virginia, May 4, 2024. Participants, which included Gold Star family members and veterans, ran across the base in support of a four-day, 250-mile tribute run, which honors every service member from Virginia who died during the War on Terror. For this portion of the route, Lance Cpl. Jacob Shelton, a 2022-graduate of Buford High School in Georgia, carried the Honor and Remember flag while Cpl. Jose Crosby, a 2016-graduate of Kent Island High School in Stevensville, Maryland, carried the American flag. Following is Cpl. Marina Camponescki, a 2022-graduate of Haverhill High School in Massachusetts, and Cpl. Jorge Ruiz, a 2018-graduate of El Paso West Academy in Texas. Eight Marines volunteered to participate in the base portion of the event, which recognized 18 fallen service members from all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Pfc.
