Marines from Marine Wing Support Squadron 473, Marine Aircraft Group-41, 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, visit WWII veteran, and former Marine, Richard Matthews, during his 100th birthday celebration on Armed Forces Day 2024. Matthews enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on November 25, 1942, and served as a military policeman, participating in action against the enemy at Vella Lavella, New Georgia, Bougainville, British Solomon Islands, and the occupation of Japan. Corporal Richard Matthews received an honorable discharge from the Marine Corps December 17, 1946.
