Kate Murphy, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority emergency manager, explains the functions and processes of the local emergency operation center during a tour at Dulles International Airport, Dulles, Va., April 30, 2024. The U.S. Air Force’s 811th Force Support Squadron was invited to Dulles by their honorary commander, Tanisha Lewis, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority vice president of diversity, inclusion and social impact, to gain insight on the necessary services of an airport and compare similarities with the services provided by a force support squadron. The goal of the Honorary Commander Program is to build strong relationships between military installations and their surrounding communities. Honorary commanders have the opportunity to attend wing and installation activities, share their unique perspectives as community leaders and showcase their own installations and activities to the military community.
