Retired U.S. Marine Corps Sgt. Mike Sulsona speaks with Brig. Gen. Omar J. Randall, deputy commander of Marine Forces Reserve and Marine Forces South, after the Memorial Day ceremony at Staten Island Marine Corps League Detachment, Staten Island, New York, May 27, 2024. Sulsona earned the Bronze Star for heroic actions taken during the Vietnam War. After Sulsona stepped on a land mine during a combat patrol in Vietnam, Sulsona’s squad was caught in a battalion sized ambush.
