North Carolina National Guard soldiers tested their skills by firing and qualifying a Next-Generation Squad Weapon (NGSW) machine gun at Fort Liberty Army Base on June 6, 2024. The Next Generation Squad Weapon Rifle (NGSW-R), the XM7, is a modular, piston-driven, select fire, magazine-fed, 6.8mm rifle that will replace the M4/M4A1 carbine within the Close Combat Force.
