Command Sgt. Maj. Deanna Carson, commandant Medical Noncommissioned Officers Academy, delivers remarks at the Fort Sam Houston National during a ceremony honoring Sgt. Maj. of the Army Leon L. Van Autreve on Jun 13, 2014. Van Autreve served as the fourth Sergeant Major of the Army and was a highly decorated Soldier who participated in the invasion of Port Lyautey, Africa and served in Vietnam. The NCO Academy at Fort Sam Houston was renamed Van Autreve Hall in September 2002, six months after Van Autreve’s death, in honor of his contributions to the U.S. Army Medical Center of Excellence and support to the academy’s mission.
