NEW LONDON, Connecticut (June 21, 2024) – Capt. Jason Grizzle, commodore of Submarine Squadron (SUBRON) 4, pins a Meritorious Service Medal on Cmdr. Matthew Powell during a change-of-command ceremony for the future USS Iowa (SSN 797), at Fort Trumbull in New London, Connecticut, June 21, 2024. Powell was relieved by Cmdr. Gregory Coy during the ceremony. The pre-commissioning unit (PCU) Iowa and crew operate under SUBRON 4, whose primary mission is to provide fast-attack submarines that are ready, willing, and able to meet the unique challenges of undersea combat and deployed operations in unforgiving environments across the globe.
