SILVERDALE, Wash. (June 5, 2024) - Elissa Forsman (right), a Strategic Weapons Facility-Pacific (SWFPAC) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) volunteer from Bangor, Washington oversees a student from Ridgetop Middle school while he connects the launch controller to a rocket fuse. SWFPAC’s STEM program has supported four successful launches from 2023-2024, and volunteers ensure the safety of students during the rocket launches; assist with connecting launchers; fix faulty fuses; and answer questions about how rocket launches relate to SWFPAC’s real-world mission. SWPFAC is the command dedicated to assembling, maintaining, and storing TRIDENT II D5 Missiles and deploying them on fleet ballistic missile submarines (U.S. Navy Photo by Chani Wenning/Released)
