SILVERDALE, Wash. (June 5, 2024) - A group of students from Ridgetop Middle School’s ‘Introduction to Engineering’ course test launch a model rocket during an early-June event in Silverdale, Washington. Strategic Weapons Facility-Pacific (SWFPAC) Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) program volunteers have supported four successful launches from 2023-2024, and volunteers ensure the safety of students during the rocket launches; assist with connecting launchers; fix faulty fuses; and answer questions about how rocket launches relate to SWFPAC’s real-world mission. SWPFAC is the command dedicated to assembling, maintaining, and storing TRIDENT II D5 Missiles and deploying them on fleet ballistic missile submarines (U.S. Navy Photo by Chani Wenning/Released)
