Rob Orr with Georgia Tech Research Institute, teaches U.S. Air Force Col. James Couch, commandant, Advanced Airlift Tactics Training Center, how to operate the anti-aircraft peripheral component of the Advanced Visual Threat Recognition and Avoidance Trainer demo during a visit from Maj. Gen. Melissa Coburn, commander, 22nd Air Force, to the AATTC at Rosecrans Air National Guard Base, in St. Joseph, Missouri, April 25, 2024. The AVTRAT is an automated virtual intelligent instructional training aid designed to introduce and refresh aircrew on their duties during an anti-aircraft threat engagement. Three people operate in each AVTRAT scenario: a pilot, loadmaster and enemy threat. 22nd AF is responsible for recruiting and training reservists and for maintaining subordinate units at the highest level of combat readiness. Since 1983 the AATTC has provided advanced tactical training to airlift aircrews from the Air National Guard, Air Force Reserve Command, Air Mobility Command, U.S. Marine Corps and 17 allied nations.
