U.S. Army Spc. Joel Cervantes, a veterinary food inspection specialist with the Veterinary Readiness Activity, Hawaii, and Senior Airman Jeremiah Page, a public health technician with the 15th Operational Medical Readiness Squadron, checks the temperature of a refrigerated truck in order to conduct safety checks with other food safety and sanitation personnel at Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam before it’s uploaded to the USNS Washington Chambers (T-AKE 11) ship at the Pearl Harbor pier in order to be transferred to USS Carl Vinson (CVN 70) ship for resupply at sea operations in support of Exercise Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) 2024, July 17. This involves rigorous checks for contaminants, pathogens, and potential sabotage. In the Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) region, this preventative approach mitigates risks of foodborne illnesses, which can significantly impact operational readiness. Twenty-nine nations, 40 surface ships, three submarines, 14 national land forces, more than 150 aircraft, and 25,000 personnel are participating in RIMPAC in and around the Hawaiian Islands, June 27 to Aug. 1. The world's largest international maritime exercise, RIMPAC provides a unique training opportunity while fostering and sustaining cooperative relationships among participants critical to ensuring the safety of sea lanes and security on the world's oceans.
