Lt. Mark Boyd, Maine Operating Room department head with Navy Medicine Readiness and Traininng Command Twentynine Palms, prepares fluoroscopy equipment prior to an orthopedic procedure, maintaining warfighter readiness, in support of the Integrated Training Exercise (ITX) at Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center Twentynine Palms, California. Boyd, a Jacksonville, Florida native, won in the Rapid Improvement Event (RIE) category of the Naval Medical Forces Pacific Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) project competition by addressing delays in the surgical suite for the first patients of the day. Through process improvements like refining the surgical consent process, improving surgical suite preparations, and enforcing morning safety huddle standards, Boyd increased compliance from 34 percent to 90 percent. This improvement translates directly to better patient care, a more efficient surgical suite, and a happier staff. (Courtesy photo by Lt. Cmdr. William Lawson/NMRTC Twentynine Palms)
