Austin LeRay, a natural resources specialist and park ranger with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, New Orleans District, holds an anhinga that was tangled by some netting around its bill at the Bonnet Carré Spillway in St. Charles Parish, La., in the summer of 2021. Park rangers cut the bird loose from the netting, and the anhinga was able to fly away uninjured. USACE park rangers partner with other federal and state organizations in Louisiana to help rescue and care for injured or distressed fish and wildlife in their areas of responsibility.
