Soldiers with the 213th Regional Support Group, Pennsylvania Army National Guard engage targets with an M17, the Army’s 9mm sidearm, during weapon qualifications at Fort Indiantown Gap, July 25*, 2024. National Guardsmen are required to qualify with their assigned weapon to maintain a high level of readiness. The 213th RSG trains annually to maintain an excellent standard of readiness for state active duty and future deployment opportunities. The weapon qualification course for the M17 requires Soldiers to engage single and multiple targets at various ranges using their fundamentals with different firing positions being used for each table or sequence. These sequences are standing, where the Soldier stands while firing at set targets, kneeling, the Soldiers kneel on one leg while using the other to support them and moving, the Soldier moves forward in line with other firers and the assistant instructors (AI) stopping to shoot at appearing targets. All military personnel must be qualified with their assigned weapon and all weapons have their own unique weapon qualifications. (US. Army National Guard photo by Spc. Annie M. Riley)
