Spc. Adam Broden, assigned to the Montana National Guard, loads ammunition before qualifying on the M4 carbine during the National Guard’s 2024 National Best Warrior Competition Aug. 4, 2024, at the Ethan Allen Firing Range near Jericho, Vermont. The multi-day competition includes 14 competitors in total, seven competing to be named the National Guard’s top Soldier, and seven competing to be named the National Guard’s top noncommissioned officer. Over the course of several days, the Best Warrior Competition will challenge the mental and physical toughness of the competitors with a series of events including weapons qualifications, ruck marches, written exams and Army Warrior Tasks.
