240808-N-EV253-1068 SAN DIEGO (Aug. 8, 2024) - (From right) Capt. William Eastham, Commodore, Helicopter Sea Combat (HSC) Wing, Pacific, Capt. Thomas Butts, commanding officer, HSC-3, Cmdr. Ian Adams, prospective commanding officer, HSC-3 and Master Chief Petty Officer Erika Lavallais, Command Master Chief of HSC-3, honor a hand-salute during HSC-3's change of command ceremony held aboard Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, California, Aug. 8. During the ceremony, Cmdr. Ian Adams relieved Capt. Thomas Butts, and became the 47th commanding officer to lead the "Merlins" of HSC-3. HSC-3 is the Navy's west coast MH-60S fleet replacement squadron, responsible for training pilots and aircrewmen by providing the most capable warfighters to the fleet.
