240808-N-EV253-1301 SAN DIEGO (Aug. 8, 2024) - Cmdr. Ian Adams, commanding officer of the "Merlins" of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron (HSC) 3, addresses his squadron for the first time after assuming command during HSC-3's change of command ceremony, held aboard Naval Air Station North Island in Coronado, California, Aug. 8. During the ceremony, Adams relieved Capt. Thomas Butts, and became the 47th commanding officer to lead the "Merlins" of HSC-3. HSC-3 is the Navy's west coast MH-60S fleet replacement squadron, responsible for training pilots and aircrewmen by providing the most capable warfighters to the fleet.
