Under the guidance of two tugboats, USS Savannah (LCS 28) enters the harbor at Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division (NSWC PHD) in California on Feb. 9 for a Combat Systems Assessment Team event. The Independence-variant littoral combat ship (LCS) is homeported in San Diego, but came to NSWC PHD to take advantage of the command’s In-Service Engineering Agents and subject matter experts who help Navy sailors prepare their ships for deployment. USS Savannah is a fast, optimally manned, mission-tailored surface combatant that operates in near-shore and open-ocean environments, winning against 21st-century coastal threats.
