NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia (Aug. 28, 2024) - Secretary of the Navy Carlos Del Toro and Capt. Colin P. Day, commanding officer of the Ford-class aircraft carrier Pre-Commissioning Unit John F. Kennedy (CVN 79), tour the mess decks of the ship, Aug. 28, 2024. During the ship visit, Secretary Del Toro, alongside Acting Secretary of Labor Julie Su and Congressman Bobby Scott (VA-03), saw firsthand how important the maritime industrial base workforce is for the construction of the world’s most technologically-advanced Gerald R. Ford-class aircraft carrier. John F. Kennedy is the second Ford-class aircraft carrier and is under construction at HII's Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) division in Newport News, Virginia.
