A vantage point from an offshore ferry provides a view of the construction site and surrounding area for the future Shepard Point Marine Tribal Transportation Oil Spill & Marine Casualty Response Facility near Cordova, Alaska, Aug. 22, 2024. U.S. Marine Corps engineers from the 6th Engineer Support Battalion conducted earthwork operations at Shepard Point as part of an Innovative Readiness Training project. The IRT program is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Defense that leverages the skills and capabilities of military personnel to support civil-military cooperation, humanitarian missions, and community development.
