Dr. Lance Chamberlain, a cognitive performance specialist with U.S. Special Operations Command Europe, fits a dry-electrode, EEG helmet, designed to measure electrical activity in the brain, on a U.S. soldier in Stuttgart, Germany, Dec. 19, 2023. This helmet provides insight into the functioning of different brain regions and the manner in which these regions communicate to one another. Cognitive performance is a key part of total readiness for Special Operations service members. This enables SOCEUR troops to perform at their peak ability in order to achieve the mission of working with Allies and partners to counter malign influence, build interoperability, rapidly respond to emerging threats and if necessary, defeat aggression on the European continent.
