U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Vanessa Aguirre, 502nd Comptroller Squadron financial operations technician, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, and retired U.S. Air Force Col. Bill Barnes cut the U.S. Air Force's 77th birthday cake during the U.S. Air Force 77th Ball in San Antonio, Sept. 7, 2024. It is tradition that the youngest and the oldest military member at the event take part in cutting the cake to emphasizes the passing of Air Force heritage and camaraderie from the oldest to the youngest. The theme of this year's Air Force Ball was "A Legacy of Excellence: Eyes Set to the Future," and allowed participants to connect, engage and boost morale among the active duty, Reserve, Guard, civilians and private sector partners to foster an ongoing kinship within the San Antonio community.
