The U.S. Navy’s fifth submerged launch of the Trident I (C-4) from the USS Francis Scott Key (SSBN 657) on July 22, 1979, off the East Coast of Florida. The Trident I was a three-stage, solid-propellant, inertially guided, submarine-launched fleet ballistic missile. It boasted a greater range and payload than its predecessors.
