The U.S. Navy’s launches Trident I (C-4) from the submerged USS Henry L. Stimson (SSBN 655 - Gold) on March 26, 1980, during Demonstration and Shakedown Operation 4 (DASO 4). The Trident I was a three-stage, solid-propellant, inertially guided, submarine-launched fleet ballistic missile. It boasted a greater range and payload than its predecessors.
