The U.S. Navy’s launches Trident I (C-4) from the submerged USS John C. Calhoun (SSBN 630 - Blue) on Oct. 28, 1980, during Demonstration and Shakedown Operation. The Trident I was a three-stage, solid-propellant, inertially guided, submarine-launched fleet ballistic missile. It boasted a greater range and payload than its predecessors.
