Kang Jeong-ho, commander, ROK Navy Submarine Force, right, receives a tour from Virginia-class fast-attack submarine USS Vermont’s (SSN 792) Commanding Officer U.S. Navy Cmdr. Michael Lilleberg, center, while the submarine is in port at Busan Naval Base, South Korea, Sept. 24, 2024. During Vermont’s port visit, the Vermont crew is scheduled to engage with key Republic of Korea navy leaders, which reflects the U.S. Navy’s commitment to the region and complements the nations’ many combined military cooperation activities. Commander, U.S. Naval Forces, Korea is the U.S. Navy’s representative in South Korea, providing leadership and expertise in naval matters to improve institutional and operational effectiveness between the two navies and to strengthen collective security efforts in South Korea and the region.
