HONOLULU (September 27, 2024) – USS Antietam (CG 54) Commanding Officer Victor J. Garza, Commander, Naval Surface Group Middle Pacific Capt. Joseph J. Ring, Antietam Command Master Chief (SW/IW/AW) Antonio L. Roberts (L to R) and ship’s crew salute during the decommissioning ceremony of Ticonderoga-class guided-missile cruiser USS Antietam (CG 54). Commissioned in Baltimore, Maryland on May 22, 1987, Antietam completes its service after 37 years. Modern U.S. Navy guided-missile cruisers perform multiple mission including Air Warfare (AW), Undersea Warfare (USW), Naval Surface Fire Support (NSFS) and Surface Warfare (SUW) surface combatants capable of supporting carrier battle groups, amphibious forces or operating independently and as flagships of surface action groups.
