    Strategic Systems Programs

FASLANE, Scotland - Mr. John Chow, forth from left, general engineer for Strategic Systems Programs (SSP), took part in an event between His Majesty King Charles III and Royal Navy submariners and their families at Coulport, part of HM Naval Base Clyde, on 19 September, 2024. King Charles III visited Coulport to show his appreciation of the Royal Navy’s submariners and their families, thanking them for their valuable service. The king also met with a group of Gold Deterrent Pin holders, who were recognized for spending the greatest amount of time under water while on strategic patrol.
Mr. Chow, a member of the U.S. Navy SSP team based at Coulport, provides support to the Joint U.S.-UK Trident II program under the Polaris Sales Agreement. In recognition of the role he and his team play in support of the UK’s sovereign, independent deterrent, he had the opportunity to greet King Charles III and shake his hand.
Strategic Systems Programs supports the UK’s Continuous-at-sea-Deterrent through the Polaris Sales Agreement. The PSA, originally signed on April 6, 1963, and amended in 1982, is a bilateral international agreement between the U.S. and UK which allows the U.S. to sell the Trident II Strategic Weapons Systems to the UK. Established as a mechanism during the Cold War to cement the allied partnership, the Polaris Sales Agreement is recognized as a cornerstone of the modern day “special relationship” between the United States and the United Kingdom.
