NORTH PACIFIC OCEAN (October 13, 2024) Lt. Norman Jones from Summerville, S.C., left, and Quartermaster Seaman Sherozaan Lawrence from Lehigh Acres, Fla., right, cut the cake during the Navy's 249th birthday celebration aboard the Arleigh Burke-class guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain (DDG 56), October 13. The cutting of the cake by the oldest and youngest command members is a tradition that symbolizes the passing of knowledge from the previous generation of Sailors to the next. John S. McCain is underway conducting routine operations in the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. U.S. 7th Fleet is the U.S. Navy's largest forward-deployed numbered fleet, and routinely interacts and operates with allies and partners in preserving a free and open Indo-Pacific Region.
