While Romero retired from the U.S. Air Force, he was an Army aviation warrant officer with 2d Squadron, 17th Cavalry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division during Vietnam, and he spoke to Army aviation leaders and Soldiers about his personal experiences as an OH-6 Cayuse pilot in Operation Lam Son 719, the largest helicopter assault in Vietnam.
