Army contractors drilled core samples on YTC to obtain information about the upper layer of soil and bedrock aquifers. The workers follow a process called “logging,” in which they study the core samples to document the different layers of soil and bedrock from the boreholes. Once the boreholes are logged, the contractors install monitoring wells to measure the depth to groundwater and collect groundwater samples. The work provides a better picture of how groundwater may be moving and will help inform the Army’s continued efforts to respond to the spread of PFAS.
