Spc. Jeffrey Rowell, a native of Salina Kan., was nominated by his battalion chain of command as "Hero of the Battle" for the month of February for his skill, expertise, and diligent efforts as a signal support systems specialist in the Forward Support Company, 1st Engineer Battalion. Rowell, currently deployed with his battalion to eastern Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, was recognized as the subject matter expert on all company communications systems and recently trained 15 fellow soldiers on radio operation and maintenance. The "Hero of the Battle" award is given to soldiers deployed with the Theater Engineer Brigade in Afghanistan who stand out for their exceptional performance and hard work.
