Brig. Gen. Steven P. Carpenter, commanding general of the 7th Army Training Command, joined Mayor Anita Hessler and Bundeswehr Lt. Col. Florian Rommel for a Volkstrauertag commemoration in Grafenwoehr, Germany, Nov. 17, 2024. Volkstrauertag, a national day of remembrance in Germany observed two Sundays before Advent since 1952, is one of the country's silent days. On this day, Germany honors members of the armed forces of all nations and civilians who died in armed conflicts, including victims of violent oppression. The mayor of Grafenwoehr, representatives from the German army, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10692, firefighters, and other local entities participated in the ceremony. (U.S. Army photo by Spc.
