Maj. Gen. James B. Wellons, the commanding general of 3rd MAW, visited the JS Kaga alongside U.S. 3rd Fleet and JMSDF Fleet Escort Force senior leaders. Members of the F-35 Patuxent River Integrated Test Force, U.S. Sailors and Marines, and the crew of the JS Kaga executed developmental sea trials off the coast of Southern California, Oct. 5 to Nov. 18, 2024, to gather the necessary data to certify F-35B Lightning II short takeoff and vertical landing aircraft operations. The testing resulted in successful operation of the F-35B from the flight deck of the JS Kaga, strengthening the interoperability between U.S. and Japanese forces. (U.S. Marine Corps photo by Sgt.
